Want to understand something about Skinning & Addon Development

In XBMC, depending on the skin that you are using, for an Addon you would get certain Layout choices for the Clips/Media available in the addon.

For eg, these are the Layout choices available in the Xperience1080 skin.



And the Layout looks like this:



What I want to understand is whether there can be a Custom Layout for an Addon. This means that each Addon Can either choose to go with Default options available in the current skin, OR Create its own layout. This is analogous to the Smartphone App concept, where the apps need to adhere to the OS specifications on the Home screen, but are Free to Look & Behave whichever way once the app is opened.

So for example, in the Roku player, if you go to any Channel, the layout of the each Channel is completely different.





Is this Possible to do in XBMC?

Yes.

It's the difference between plugin and script add-ons. Most add-ons are plugins which basically just supply the skin a list of items, while a script may provide it's own skin.
