What would be the best OS/XBMC version for Cubietruck (Cubieboard 3) with both HDMI and VGA output, SPDIF optical audio and hardware video acceleration?

Has anyone found a good solution for XBMC besides OpenPCTV?

Any news for Cubietruck? I am running Igor's (username=slovenia on cubieforum) Debian Wheezy Server Image with patwood's Kernel 3.4.79 and really appreciate this image as it's stable, light-weight and really fast. I would like to install XBMC on it but have no idea where to start. At least I'd like to know if it's even possible to have get XBMC Gotham run on the Cubietruck with hardware acceleration supported. I hope it will run better than my Raspberry Pi which I am actually using. Any help welcome. Thanks to all

Unfortunately actually there is NO hardware acceleration support for Cubietruck as explained on top of http://www.linux-sunxi.org/XBMC. Today I have heard that it won't be available in future, too because there are problems between the devs. Seems they have political problems Smile If you have further questions related to this please ask on freenode's irc channel #linux-sunxi

Currently I am looking into the possiblity to have a complete working Kodi distribution for the Cubieboard3, aka Cubietruck.

Can somebody clarify the status on this, and maybe add some information on the quote below.

I will also ask information about this at linux-sunxi. Any suggestions/comments are welcome, since I personally think it is a really nice platform for Kodi.

There is still no native support for hardware decoding on Allwinner A10 or A20 under Linux.

Only recommended workaround is still to use libhybris and Android binaries

http://linux-sunxi.org/CedarX/libve

Better yet don't bother trying to use a Allwinner A10/A20 device for XBMC/Kodi.

Best use such devices for something else and buy better supported device for XBMC/Kodi.

Allwinner A10 and A20 based devices are not nice platforms for XBMC/Kodi.

This topic has come up time and time and time and time again. There is very poor manufacturer support for hardware video decode acceleration in Linux on the Allwinner A10/A20 platform, and so the Kodi developers concentrated on other ARM platforms where there is better support (Pi, i,MX6, AMLogic etc.)

If the support is not great to get the hardware acceleration working, than indeed it is a large drawback for using the platform for Kodi.
