Hi All,

I can't believe I've only just stumbled upon this amazing looking media solution!! I've just been reading in the Forums and Wiki about using XBMC on Android, Smart TV's, uPNP etc.

Would I be right in thinking I should be able to install XMBC on an Android Tablet, have all the data on my NAS and tell XMBC on the Android Tablet to play the movie via my uPNP smart TV?

If the answer to this is yes I'm going to be very happy.

Thanks!

This might help you. http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=UPnP
I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for. You should be able to share the media over upnp.

Thats a internal team discussion on the feature your looking at.

And please chnage the title of your post, it has nothing to do with the matter and is really unhelpful.

Mostly no. The problem being that the smart TV usually had very limited upnp support and very limited codec support.

It will just not play many items on your NAS.

If you however have a small device running XBMC attached to your TV then you could definitely use the phone or tablet as a remote to start playing items, either by running XBMC on it as well, or just by running one of the remote apps.

Ps. @universal, that link you referred to does not really talk about using smart TV's as upnp targets. Because those clients are so limited there isn't much to do since xbmc doesn't transcode video.

In the long run though, yes, that's one goal, but not so much right now, per what Kib said :)
