A 4gig with 500GB HD version popped up on this Aus site:

And there's nothing worse than buying the cheaper inferior product then having to buy the more expensive version because the cheaper one didn't work properly...

I could not agree more with you.

I can't wait to see the pricing with a small ssd to connect to my nas and stream games from steam.

Just updated the first post to reflect this does definitely have SPDIF output, combo with 3.5mm jack, you can see it labelled in the gallery

Bah! According to an updated product page on Asus website it no longer says it's fanless. Big shame... Sad

Yeah that's a bugger.

The Shuttle XS35 V4 seems to be confirmed fanless, runs no nvidia gpu though, the rest of the spec looks pretty close to the Asus one.

Looks good and I mostly have faith in Shuttle (even if they never fixed the ION2 1080p jitter bug = the machine istelf is solid). I have the original XS35GT still running behind my dining room tv (for watchign news, music). Works a treat still as long as you stick to a light skin.

So seems a logical successor.

A few look to be on ebay, a little bit too expensive though unfortunately.

Looks like they can be bought from Germany for around £220-230 which doesn't seem too bad.

Anyone know how capable the nvidia 820M is for deinterlacing?

I bit the bullet and bought one for £232 from Germany.

I'll report back when I get it.

It came in around the same price as an AMD A1 system (but with only 2GB RAM) and cheaper than an NUC.

Sounds very interesting!

May I ask where you bought it from? Also, be great if you could check if it outputs 5.1 via the Spdif jack (pity its at the front but as long as it works) and via HDMI.

Memory upgradable?

Thanks,

I bought it from www.atelco.de

It should arrive tomorrow.

I think the memory will be upgradeable.

Do you need the optical output checking? I only usually use audio over HDMI.

Hi,
Thanks for that.

If it does 5.1 audio over HDMI that would be enough (I'm sure it does but....!).

I found a Youtube video about the EB1033 (exact same case) and it shows how to open the case and install memory (and an HD) so I'd be pretty sure that the memory will be upgradeable - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebqWq9N81Jc

Its a great looking HTPC, has just about everything we could possibly need!

Currently having installing Ubuntu (due to UEFI issues I think).

OpenElec went on fine but only seems to recognise the Intel graphics and not the nvidia ones. Not had much time to play yet though.
