Dedicated card for live TV?
#1
I am thinking of getting a third WinTV-HVR-2250 and installing tunersalad to increase my tuner limit. I would like to set both tuners on this card to be dedicated to live TV and time shifting and the other 4 tuners on the other 2 cards for recording. Is this possible?

No, I believe liveTV streams will always be killed in favour of recordings if more tuners are needed due to multiple overlapping recordings being scheduled. The recordings are done by the windows recording service so we can't influence this. Krusty can confirm but Im pretty sure I have this right

Yeah that's true. We could pose a software limit in swmc to only allow a fixed number of live-tv streams, in sgibbers example two. But there is nothing that will stop the recservice for grabbing all six if it thinks it needs too.

But I wonder... if he doesn't use TS to extend the limit to six tuners. In this case the recservice will only use four, but I wonder if the other two tuners would be usable in this state, by swmc?

Yeah, I guess my assumption would be that they wouldnt be seen by us, since we rely on things being configured in WMC. But it would be cool for someone to plug in 3 tuners and then run ServerWMC and see what is listed in the "Enumerate Devices" section of the log at startup...

I have 2 HDHomerun Primes so 6 tuners. Before I installed Tuner Salad only 4 were seen/used by wmc and ServerWMC If you were to use 2 separate backends you could schedule recordings on one and use the second for live TV. Pvr/ServerWMC would need some tweaks to specify a recording backend vs live TV backend and the ability to set up 2 backends
If I have been of help, please add to my reputation as a way of saying thanks, it's free.

I was wondering what would happen if I were watching Live TV and a recording came on. I'm glad to now know the answer, but I recommend that you document this. Along those lines, I recommend that you add as much documentation as possible to the ServerWMC interface. Smile
