Solved nvidia driver not loading at startup
#1
Xorg Log

As you can see from the log, upon startup a screen is not found so the driver unloads. But if I ssh in, and run
Code:
sudo modprobe nvidia-304
This is the resulting log
Xorg Log

Do I need to add some kind of delay to give the TV time to be recognized?

EDIT: All works with 14.04 and kernel 3.14.1

Have you tried reinstalling the nvidia drivers? When they install correctly, they write to the correct init script(s) to load the driver before X starts.

Did you try running
Code:
sudo nvidia-xconfg
Should write a xorg.conf file to load the nvidia driver.

Yes...if you turn on your XBMC as the first device and you are on NVidia graphics, the card doesn´t recognize a monitor or the AVR. You can test this if you first turn on your TV and your AVR and then turn on the XBMC.

Maybe this might help you a little bit:

This is a workaround for forcing a monitor out via custom EDID informations you have to paste in your xorg.conf.

Take a look...maybe it could help.

I've had a similar problem; it's as if the GPU isn't available when xbmc tries to start... I added a 'sleep 3' line to rc.local in etc/init.d and now I have 100% reliable startup on all my machines.

Thanks for your help, David1977. I might try that as a last resort, but the problem only exists in the newer kernels. I am on 3.11 and it works just fine. Plus it happens every time. Even if I am using the box and reboot it.

@isamudaison That seems like an easy solution. I will try that when I reinstall the kernel.

@VanillaXtract: did you try toasterboy1's advice? It sounds like the most reasonable solution.

Yes, I had tried that prior to posting.
