[Apple TV 2] Crashes constantly

I think it's happening primarily when scraping.

I have an ATV2 that I just upgraded from 5.0.1 to 5.3. Noticed that the thumbnails folder was getting way huge (5GB) so I decided to try path subs to move the thumbnails to the Win7 machine that serves all of the media. I had verified that this was working ok, seeing files get updated in the new path.

However, I was starting to note some very sluggish activity, and an occasional crash. Thought maybe this was the culprit so I intended to move the thumbs back on to the ATV and maybe try just cleaning things up a little. Unfortunately it got to about 99.9% done (53 files left) and the ATV was filled to the brim, storage tab under system info showed 100% full. So I deleted all the thumbnails and went back to path subs.

Next I tried using Millhouse's Texture cache maintenance utility (using the substituted path in his config file), but the box crashed during the query.

Now I'm just trying to start from scratch, removed the path sub, empty thumbnails directory, deleted textures13.db (per this thread), and started scanning the movies folder again.

The link below is the log for the most recent crash after starting the scan, which did not take much time to crash:

Can anyone shed some light?

Should have made sure path subs worked well before upgrading. Kind of ready as I mentioned in the other thread to dump the userdata folder and start all over again.

Have you tried XBMC -> Settings -> Video -> File lists -> and deselect 'Extract thumbnails and video information' ?

Here's a crashreporter log from earlier in the day, not sure if it helps or not. There is no crashreporter log with a timestamp closer to this recent crash.

ETA I also just recently upgraded from Frodo 12 to 12.3, so there's that.

I decided to wipe the slate with a clean install. The only thing I saw that looked suspicious during the install phase was that it said seatbeltunlock could not be verified. Is this ok?

Ok, now I'm getting reboots after totally clean install, no user preferences have been copied to filesystem, this is a clean install, which was performed after doing all three steps indicated for a total uninstall.

Can someone please help me?

Here's the log after the last reboot:

This is now happening after browsing for an SMB share, right when I go to enter the username and password.

I was thinking maybe it was coming across a bad file when it was scanning in the videos, but where it crashes in the logs seems to be different each time, and this time it seems to crash without actually processing a thumbnail.

Since you've tried just about everything else, maybe try this with a nightly build (wiki)? I'm guessing it will still crash, but maybe it's something that has been fixed.

Also, if you could get a crashlog: IOS_FAQ#logs (wiki)

Hmm, I think I might know what was going on before, though I'm not sure it should have generated a crash. I was using a bluetooth keyboard which I just started using (kind of what initially prompted this whole update thing I've been on). Anyway, I was inputting the username and password without bringing up the on screen keybowards (just typing where the fields are highlighted and pressing enter). It had been so long since I'd done this that I forgot what it was supposed to look like, and just thought that the input was being obscured. Made more sense when I tried to use a remote and realized i needed the OSK for input.

Anyway so far so good.with the nightly build. Noticed that this does away with the workgroup entry under the services settings, is it autodetecting or something? Used to default to WORKGROUP and I would always have to go in and change it to MSHOME.

ETA I guess I'm in guinea pig mode until a stable is released. Not a big deal, I kind of like it around here anyway, you devs/xbmc pros are good people Smile
