What file format do the Background images need to be? When I search for the images I want to use, they're not listed. The format I'm trying to use are jpeg.

Nevermind I change the file type to jpg and they show up.
Next question, is there a way to set random images to show up for movies and tv shows?

Yes. You can either 'Use collection Fanarts' which requires the add-on artwork organizer.
Or you can shove a load of images in a folder and point the skin to that folder through the 'change backdrop - multiple images' option.

When I go to multiple images option, it's empty but the single image option shows my images.
I've also noticed this skins freezes up a lot, almost every time I use it.

That's because with the multiple images option you are browsing for a folder, not a particular image.
Not sure with regards to freezing up. It could be a million and one things. What platform are you running?
You're best bet is to enable debugging and have a look at the log.
