xbmc crashes when skipping at times
#1
This only seems to occur when watching a mythtv recording.
running Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS and xbmc 13.0 alpha 12
mythtv v0.25.2-15-g46cab93

The log is at : http://pastebin.com/NfrbzR2h

When this happens xbmc stops entirely and I go back to the ubuntu desktop.
It restarts without issue, but can be a bit annoying.

Is this a potential bug? or could it be due to a setting I have wrong?

Thanks

I've seen something similar on Ubuntu 13.10. You might want to look in your home directory for an xbmc crash log and possiblly post over at the linux forum. My problem isn't resolved, but I'm using a special de-interlace build and had the wrong drivers, so still up in the air. If the program you were watching is interlaced (like 1080i or 480i) there are known problems with de-interlacing with some Intel GPUs and linux. That might explain why you only see it with PVR material, as that is the only source likely to provide interlaced content.

OK, now that I've actually taken a look at your log, I see that it is a crash log. It looks like 576i, which is interlaced. Do you know what your de-interlace settings are in your XBMC set-up?

you need to generate a debug log (wiki) of the event.

This seems to have been fixed in the latest nightly for me. You might want to upgrade and see if it improves for you.

Thanks nickr,

Strangely ubuntu crashed when I put it in debug mode.

Hope I got this correct, it took a while to reproduce

RipT - My version is : Using Release XBMC x64 build, compiled Feb 19 2014
I will check if there is another and apply if it has not already done so.

I'm using a Feb 19th build too, but it started crashing again tonight. It stopped yesterday while I was changing around my audio passthrough settings, but since it started again without any further changes, I clearly don't have the answer yet.

I was definitely wrong about the latest nightly fixing the crash for me (since it crashed with the latest nightly - or at least 2/19), but I may be right about turing ON audio passthrough stopping the crashes. I can't be sure as it requires zero crashes forever to be able to state that it is completely fixed. Since there are several steps involved in getting passthrough to work, it could be any one of them, or it could crash tonight.

Anyway, if you are running with audio passthrough off (or if it even makes sense with your setup i.e. having a surround sound amp or not), you could try turning it on and see if that helps. You may have to set your audio channels to 2.0 to get passthrough to show up as an option.

It's a bit of a shot in the dark, but greater minds than mine have looked at my crash logs and not come up with anything.
