Linux Mkv stutter on ubuntu
#1
Hi
When I play mkv files from xbmc , some scenes the frame rate drops to 20/s causing playback stuttering.
XBMC is installed on the latest intel NUC i3 with 8 GB of ram running on the latest ubuntu 13 platform.
If I play the same file through VLC player in ubuntu, it plays just fine with CPU utilization not exceeding 40%.
Any ideas?
Thanks

no - not a single idea, cause of: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=34655 :-)

Come back with the relevant logfiles.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

VA-API (hardware acceleration) is not working, so you should check your drivers.

a) The version you are running is not supported it's an evil old version 12.0-rc3, sadly shipped by the ubuntu folks.
b) As negge pointed out, you miss the libva-driver-intel

Solutions
a) install team xbmc ppa
b) install the vaapi driver and also disable VDPAU

Thanks. Question, why would vlc be able to activate hardware acceleration and run smoothly white xbmc can't?

It can't it just uses two cores at once. In xbmc everything is single threaded, when HW decoders are active.

Hi,
Do I need to uninstall current version first? if yes, how?
Can I have instructions to install team xbmc ppa and vaapi driver?

Thanks
