Sometimes XBMC exits(crashes) when opening videofile.(log included)
#1
Hi,

Sometimes when I try to open a videofile, may be a .mkv, .avi doesn't really matter, it looks like
XBMC is loading the file, but suddenly it quits and goes back to the main Apple TV menu, then
I have to start xbmc again and start the file over, and it works, most of the times, may do the process over again.

Why does this happen? I try to see in the logfile, but I can't see any errors.

I got all the mediafiles stored on a win7 box, and the apple tv is connected with ethernet cable, no wifi.

I just tried to open a couple of files, but xbmc craches and got back to the apple tv menu. At the same time I connected to the media-file-server
with my laptop, no problem at all!

Any ideas?

XBMC: 12.2 Frodo

There is no /private/var/mobile/Library/Logs/CrashReporter file for AppleTV.

Code:
Saved crashreport to /Library/Logs/CrashReporter/LowMemory-2014-02-24-180930.plist

Please try gotham beta1 and see if it fixes it (see xbmc.org for howto install it).

I have similar issues since Frodo and Apple TV 5.2. Today I deleted some cached videos and Debian packages to get more room on the disk. I also installed the latest Gotham nightly build. It hasn’t changed anything. Some movies stop directly after I want to play them, others kill the Apple TV about a couple of minutes into the movie. I posted a Gotham sample log at http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=146377 There are some errors in the logs, but searching the forum and Google didn’t reveal any solution.

Any ideas how I can fix these issues?

1. this is not a debug log (wiki)
2. You've cut the log - post a full log next time

Also ensure to read the iOS FAQ (wiki) - especially the part about crashing (e.x. turning off thumbnail generation ...)

I did not write “debug log”, just sample log Wink Sorry, I know that you rely on it. Due to the notice messages I thought that debug output is still on.

I already went a couple of times through the wiki documentation and also some forum threads. Things seem to work a little bit better now. These are the things I’ve done (for future reference):
  • Update to the Gotham nightly build
  • Remove cached files, i.e. Debian packages & iTunes downloads (this didn’t change anything besides giving me 5–6 GiB more free space)
  • Disable add-ons (I had a couple of them and a lot of pre-installed add-ons like music or PVR were never used; I aggressively disabled them, too)
  • Disable parts of the Confluence skin, make it more minimalistic (this solved a couple of interface lag issues during navigation; I turned of video previews in the main menu, background fan art, changed the TV and Movies section to different views that feel smoother; Gotham definitely made thinks faster, but turning off these skin features made a slightly bigger boost to navigation performance; the only thing that still lags a lot is the Movies view; background fan art was responsible for a great lag on my Apple TV)
  • I applied most of the hints from the iOS FAQ months ago, but I went through it a second time (turning off thumbnail generation didn’t change anything, so I turned it back on)

All movies that previously crashed seem to work now (I only tested it for a couple of seconds, but most of them already crashed before they even started).

Thanks for your continuous support, Memphiz. Keep up the great work!
