Cutting the cord & need advise
#1
Hello everyone! I am new here and just found this forum and have been reading up. I am going to drop my cable, Comcrap, and go with an RCA ANT751 antenna and then get a HTPC with XBMC Big Grin

Now my question is build or buy? I have built a few PCs, but years ago. I know hardware changes and I was wondering what does everyone recommend for building or buying? I don't mind doing either.

Here is what I am looking at:
* DVR Antenna TV, need TV tuner
* WIFI, RFI remote, USB ports
* Not a gamer, don't need bleeding edge
* Looking for VALUE performance
* Windows 8, it's what I know
* Was thinking I would use my current Blu-ray player
* Stream media, add-on channels, DVD library

Here's what I am thinking, I am new to this and need help. I was reading this site on what to do: http://lifehacker.com/5936546/how-i-buil...-under-500

I know hardware changes fast in the PC world and I don't want to drop more than $400 tops! I need your expertise folks. Can I buy this under $400 or should I build it? What does everyone recommend if I build? Is there a kit, do I buy it from Fry's or shop around, what do I get?

Thank You for reading and helping me cut the cord.

While an A4 is doable and okay for XBMC, I'd go with at least an AMD A6-6400K Richland 3.9GHz Socket FM2 65W. Plus,..it's only 20 bucks more than the A4.

This FM2 Gigabyte MOBO is also cost effective at $46.00 with the $10 rebate.

This "Shuttle XH61V Intel Core i3 / i5 / i7" and this "Intel Core i3-3240 Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz" should do wonder....

If you need a little more room, you can opt for this "Shuttle SH67H3 Intel Core i7 / i5 / i3"....
>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!
