TBS Matrix 2910 production model tests
#1
Hi all well after much testing of the TBS Matrix 2910 mini PC Freescale quad core I'm very impressed with the performance of this little gem!!

The permanent fan running has been resolved on both Matrix TV ( XBMC ) and Ubuntu and the fan has not even kicked in on my tests

They have now added an ir device for use of the TBS pcie tuner cards
Ir runs a special edition of XBMC by Wolfgar and the Matrix handles XBMC superbly and there have been numerous updates which are easy to install on the embedded eMMC card which just involves connecting a mini usb cable to your PC and flicking the boot switch to BURN and simply clicking the Mfg tool
You can setup wi-fi from pre boot screen by pressing any key on initial boot..including other options

I'm going to be testing some pc tuner cards soon and will update the results soon

These can now be purchased in the UK for next day delivery

My English are really not that good.. since i cant find in any dictionary the definition of "special edition of XBMC"

I know i am a bit sarcastic... BUT...

MANY developers of such devices advertised: special, custom, ultra imba XBMC version... but in the end .........

so...

Cool

So, how does this compare to the similar priced bay trail nuc?

Which has better support and stability? Wink

Took the plunge and ordered one including their DVB-T/-T2/C2 CI USB card. If it decodes live Pay-TV, it could be an awesome little XBMC device.

That code for i.MX6 is surely going to make make it into XBMC mainline sooner or later, but for now you can compile it yourself

so... Special XBMC edition in this case is a version that will run on an i.MX6?

I think what they mean by "Special Edition" is that the underlying Linux comes with drivers for their DVB cards and includes tvheadend, VDR and other PVR options. Theoretically, the Matrix 2910 could work as a full-fledged XBMC-based DVB receiver. I'll keep you posted about that if you're interested.

Yes today you need a "special XBMC edition" that support i.MX6 hardware in order you get hardware video acceleration on its VPU.

You can get precompiled builds from http://stephan-rafin.net/blog/2014/02/23...anization/

or compile yourself from http://github.com/xbmc-imx6

If you would just download a version from http://xbmc.org today then it will not support hardware video acceleration on i.MX6

Much more detailed information for developers is available here http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=161793

Received my TBS Matrix and the TBS 5881 DVB-T/T2/C card a few days ago and am pretty happy so far.

Documentation and support leaves bit to be desired, but with a little google-fu, I've gotten DVB-T live-TV to work. Installation of TBS' matrixtv distro - including wolfgar's XBMC build for i.MX6 - went thru flawlessly. Matrix' proprietary config tool actually works fairly well once you know what to do, I eventually found the required information concerning diseqc.conf and channels.conf on VDR-Wiki. XBMC seems to work well (I've only played with it for two days so far), Next step: Getting DVB-C including pay TV to work.
