FPS problems since Frodo
#1
Hello!

Ive recently updated from Eden to v12.3 on my AppleTV2(4.4.4. 3330). I love xbmc and without it I would not have bought the atv. I use my DS111 with smb to stream movies. I like all the improvements of Frodo, but I realized performance issues in comparison to Eden. When i play some 10gb bluray rips, the framerate drops occasionally for some seconds, then some seconds movie looks fluent, depending on the displayed content. With the movie "gravity" it was extremly obvious everytime they showed earth in the background. I experienced that issue with many different files. I assume, that Frodo is just a bit more hardware consuming and the A4 cpu is just at its limits. Thats why I want to downgrade to Eden to fix this framerate issue using this how-to: http://www.xbmchub.com/blog/how-to-downg...pple-tv-2/

But before, I wanted to ask: is there anything more I can try out to fix it within frodo or will gotham maybe fix it if its less hardware-consuming than frodo? I tried that already without success:

---
Go to "Settings"
Go to "Video Settings"
Go to "Playback"
Turn ON both "Adjust display refresh rate to match video" and "Sync playback to display"
---

Thx for your answer!

Gotham works a little bit faster on my Apple TV. I would definitely give it a try.

You should also disable as many plugins as possible, disable skin functions (like background fan art), and remove files in the cache directories (dpkg & iTunes). Sync playback should be turned off by the way.

Use ethernet if you are not doing so already. Those are peaks in the bitrate (e.x. the earth is a big chunk of data compared to the black space) and are most likely causing issues when using wifi.

Hi, sorry that I didnt mention it, but ATV is connected via LAN (100mbit). So far i didnt have any problems like that and all that changed is the xbmc version. Synology NAS fileserver, cable connection etc is all the same as before when I was running Eden and had no fps issues. I didnt give any specifica so far because I thought most ATV2 users must have the same issues and its a known thing. I also dont want to start a huge discussion because I think Frodo is a magnificient piece of software, maybe just a bit too consuming for the old A4 processor. Ill just downgrade to Eden then if I manage and shall be fine. BR, Lutz
