I'm just not happy with how it plays local content (yeah thats not one of its advertised features, but still). Netflix, amazon prime video all work great. Plex stutters and XBMC just isn't ready yet. There is a 30 day return window for full refund so I'll decide over the next week or so what I'm going to do. But right now I'm coming from a boxee box. It crashes a lot but it plays everything and has airplay and netflix. So basically I'm gaining a faster box that doesn't play everything natively. Gaining amazon prime video. I'm losing being able to play everything and airplay. Decisions decisions.

Not trying to be an ass but it just launched, give it a week or two and see what is tweaked then return if you still don't like it.

Yeah obviously, there is a 30 day window so 30 days. My initial impressions are what I posted above. And my initial impressions are I'm not wow'd...yet.
Try Koying's test build first! http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1672493

:D
Media Specifications for the Fire TV

https://developer.amazon.com/sdk/asb/media-specs.html
There are two questions to answer to decide if it'll be worth it for me:

Can it handle decoding 1080i MPEG-2?

What formats of surround sound can be bitstreamed by it?

Neither of those are supported by the listed specifications, but if it can handle everything I need it to, then I'm down to a single box.

Big Grin

Thanks will do, probably not till really late tonight or tomorrow sometime.
I'll test it today after work and and report
My intention is to be at a 'single box' as well.

This is from Amazon this morning. The 'official' line is it doesn't support streaming from our computers.

However, at this time you cannot stream content from PC to Amazon Fire TV. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

Of course, my response was, "how come you 'support' PLEX then?"

http://mirrors.xbmc.org/test-builds/andr...bi-v7a.apk

Please send a log if it doesn't work.

Uninstalled Gotham b3, installed from this link. Same thing:

libstagefright and mediacodec OR just mediacodec = green screen/artifacts that can be skipped through, followed by what subjectively looks like 'crappy playback'
libstagefright only = audio but no video

Multiple file formats and sizes (typical SD and 720 HD television episode releases).

I'm sorry, but I'm an intermediate/vanilla xbmc user and I'm starting from absolute zero on android, so I don't know where the logs are. I assume I will need to get some other basic tools onto the box, such as an ssh server or something? (I typically do my own RTFM'ing, but trying to help out as quickly as possible here so wouldn't turn down some hints.)

AFK a few hours then I'll be available for another round. I can also try surround sound again later, my sense so far has been the following:

XBMC: Worked in Frodo (I had to hunt around to find some of my shows that had surround, my receiver indicated it knew it was doing Dolby at least--keep in mind I'm not super knowledgeable on this one), but had to change audio settings away from 'analog' first. Did NOT seem to work in Gotham, regardless of settings, receiver only reported 'all channel stereo". Didn't test it in quoted link above.

Plex: Plex app has individual audio settings (DTS, DD+, something something), and enabling any of those = no audio playback at all.

EDIT: In response to the post a few posts prior...trying to get a factual answer our of Amazon's tier one support on a technical issue is a recipe for heartbreak. Smile
I'm really digging this ftv:

Currently I'm using 2 atv2s with Infuse (works great) but any chance to significantly upgrade the hardware and flexibility... I'm all over it
See Log file/Easy (wiki) for sending the debug log.
Ordered mine today, once it shows up on Sunday I'll start playing with it and see what I can figure out.
Guys keep an eye on this thread too

agreed, i remember when the chromecast launched. how it sucked because it didnt have this and it didnt having that. atleast the amazon fire tv has plex which the chromecast didnt (at launch).
Seems this thread has taken off. If anybody can point me to important post numbers listing directions for getting XBMC setup on the Fire TV, I will update the first post of the thread to make it more informational than it currently is.

It was easy, i've never dealt with anyone android and I had it up and running really fast:

First this: https://developer.amazon.com/sdk/asb/connect-adb.html
Then this: https://developer.amazon.com/sdk/asb/app-install.html
