From time to time I've had a client system unable to connect to live TV on my primary server running the wmc.pvr back end. When I remote desktop into that server, there is a pop-up window (from another app, not the pvr server) waiting for a response. When I acknowledge that window and it disappears, the client can then connect. Let me know if a log would be useful and I'll try to grab one the next time it happens. Was happening under Frodo, has also happened a couple of times since I installed the Gotham beta. Both systems are Win7, 64 bit.

That's a head scratcher, I don't know if a log would be useful or not. If you don't mind, what does the app want you to you ack? Can you run without the app for a while just to see what happens?

It hasn't been the same app each time. Several times it's been the ATI Hydravision control complaining, but that could be because I'm coming in via RDP? Could be coincidence but it has resolved the connection problem each time.

I can't think of what it would be. So yeah, next time it happens save the server and client xbmc log.

Does your server or client go to sleep and are either of them wireless? I had trouble with my wireless network cards getting hosed (intermittently) when going to sleep. I went into advanced settings set it so my wireless card didn't turn off when my computer went to sleep and that solved my problem.

That is something else I wondered about as both systems do go to sleep, I use a WOL add--on to wake up the server when the client PC comes out of sleep mode. But both are wired, not WiFi. And I can get to the recorded programs even though live TV fails, so network connectivity isn't the problem.
As I said, it's not like it's happening all the time so it's not a huge deal for me. But it does happen often enough that I thought I'd post it.

Yeah, but some of us have OCD. What do you mean when you say that you can get to the recorded programs even though live tv fails? Are you getting to the recordings outside of the addon?

My Recorded TV folder is on the same server running the pvr back end, I can access those even when live TV isn't working.

OK, happened this morning, I was watching live TV when I suddenly was booted back to the channel listings with an error from the client. Tried selecting the channel again, same error. So I closed XBMC, relaunched it and the channels list was empty. Went into the client config and tried to reload the client, it did so (very quickly) but once again the channel list was empty.
So I connected to the server via RDP and saw that AnyDVD had crashed with a pop-up error window. I closed that window and went back to the client XBMC, still wouldn't work, no channels listed. Restarted XBCM, no luck. Back to the server, restarted the pvr.wmc app but that still didn't clear the problem. Finally rebooted the server and then everything worked again.
Will post the log files later when I'm back at home.

It looks like you have 100 channels that you are using. In the last run log, these channels are all reported by the COM as having a drm of:
PROT_COPY_CN_RECORDING_STOP (I have never seen this one before). But you don't get this on the newer log (which I assume is the working one). Since these got designated as not being COPY_FREE they didn't get transferred to your client. So I am assuming that's why the channel list was empty.
So the question is, why did windows suddenly get confused about the channel type - and it took a reboot to get it working again. I wonder if its related to whatever caused anydvd to crash. Are you running any other tv or channel related software? Next time it happens, try starting wmc on the server computer and see what it reports about the channel status. If it doesn't show any problem, then try to view a live tv channel in wmc and see what happens.
You could change the setting in serverwmc to let the DRM channels get imported into xbmc. Then the channels won't be empty, and it would be interesting to see if they play ok.
This seems like a different problem then what you first reported though, because I thought in that case you just had to dismiss the error popup in windows.

Yeah, this seems to be something else. I was kicked out of live TV again this morning, this time there was no pop up window at all. Will post logs later. I hadn't read your response so didn't try any of those suggestions.
I do recall some time ago where I had a problem that all the channels were suddenly flagged as copy protected but it cleared itself up eventually.

Same problem as before. Did you try running wmc after the problem occurred that I posted earlier?

No, as I said I hadn't read your post in time, will try that next time it happens.
