Win Minimal config for 3D and Full HD
#1
Hi Smile
I have a Samsung TV 3D UE40F6300 and a home theater Samsung HT-E4500 connected by HDMI. I have ARC functionnality between TV and HT.
I'm searching a small HTPC (like Zotac Zbox or Intel NUC) in order to play MKV 1080p High profile level 4.1 (I'm making myself my MKV 1080p with a CRF 18 high profileand level 4.1) and MKV 3D Half SBS (or Half TAB) with same specifications (and perhaps in the future Full SBS or Full TAB but it's optional).
I'm searching the minimal configuration to play this type of videos.
I would like also to play DTS sound, I don't know if I can connect HTPC to TV and use ARC functionnality or if I must use an optical output between HTPC and HT (I don't have HDMI input on HT).
Is a CPU like Celeron 1007u could be enough ? Or is it necessary to use an i3 ?
Thanks !

Half-SBS and Half-TAB 1080p is effectively identical to 2D (its 1920x1080 or 1280x720) - so for 1080p a 1007U or 2955U would be fine. H264 HP at 4.1 is fine.

If you want DTS or DD to your Home Theatre amp, then you'll need a machine with Toslink output (or an HDMI splitter that will output digital audio from an HDMI feed is another option some have used)

If you want Full HD 3D Blu-ray playback - that requires a Core i3 as a minimum. (There have been some reports that BayTrail Celerons may also do it)

Thanks for your response Smile
And do you know AMD E2-1800 + HD7340 ? Is it fine for H264 HP @ 4.1 ?
I've seen ZBOX ID-18 with Celeron 1007u but there is not VESA support and Wifi, but ZOTAC ZBOX AD-06 have all functionnalities

And does Celeron 1007u support also VC-1 hardware decoding ?

I believe it does for 1080p content - but I think there are issues with interlaced VC-1 on Intel (not sure if all platforms or just Linux though)

And do you think 2955u is better than 1007u ? First is Haswell and second is Ivy Bridge AFAIK
