What type of Intel NUC should I buy?

and how much ram?

what storage?

I am going to use it initially to run JUST xbmc (openelec) to stream at most 1080p movies from my hard drive that will be connected to it.

I will later buy a NAS and set it up, but only have funds for HTPC atm.

I saw one on EBAY I am bidding for currently.

For OpenElec you could use the BayTrail NUC http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=187433

They tested it with OpenElec here, though bare in mind that it may perform better now if they've released newer BIOS

yeah many online ebay computer stores sell these. they're the cheapest NUC you can get.

so the original link I posted is a 3rd GEN, this other used NUC is the baseline.

any thoughts on either of the two?

2GB of ram is enough for OpenELEC, the NUC GPU takes 0.5GB (DN2820FYKH) so there's still 1.5GB available for OE use.

The i3 is much more powerfull than the 847.

so I missed out on a few NUCs.

Im just going to buy one new.

So a basic baytrail NUC with 2GB Ram and 60GB SSD would be ok?

You don't even need 60 GB if you're going to be streaming from an external share with OpenElec. If you ever decide to put windows on it, then you will need the 60 gb and at preferably 4 GB ram... Ram is cheap, so go 4-8.

If you don't need suspend (in OE) even a USB 16GB flash drive should be enough.
