I just installed Ubuntu on my server running on a USB key. Does it make sense to move the MySQL data directory to the hard drives? Since these change fairly frequently, it should prolong the life of the USB key having them on the hard drives. Or does it really matter? Also, I think speed would be better too.

On one hand, if the USB drive dies fast you can buy another one for cheap. On the other hand, you would have lost your library and would need to rebuild it. I would go with putting the MySQL data on the HDD.
