Hummm,
I need to understand why my system works then.
I think I have the same configuration than Dana, meaning that the HTPC is connected via HDMI to TV and via SPDIF to my old Onkyo ampli that has no HDMI capability.
I made a number of tests in the past, and since the TV doesn't passthrough from HDMI to SPDIF, I connected directly HTPC to Ampli.
Then I had to hack a little with .asoundrc because I did also want to play from other sources than XBMC, like Firefox for instance,
but I can grant that my system plays well any format.
What's the fault with that?

Perche tu, probabilmente hai un ampli compatibile aac, mentre io no!! ho un harman kardon avr 134 e non credo lo sia!

Ma tu dici che usando un altro dvd player, immagino collegato via SPDIF allo stesso ampli, quei dischi li ascolti.
Invece se usi XBMC non ascolti nulla.
Si tratta proprio di DVD o di files ricodificati?
E quando li stai visualizzando, hai provato ad aprire il menu Audio del player, ed eventualmente cambiare sia la traccia che il formato?

I thinked about upgrade and i've read gotham is in beta 3. Except the aac problem im very fine with frodo 12.2
so i think i will wait for a stable version of gotham, if is the only solution.

No no quello è un file mkv ma non è un disco e non uso un altro dvd player ma un altro asrock identico ma con su windows 7 e vari codec e li funziona benissimo ( stesso identico file ).
Già provato anche a cambiare traccia ma nulla.

guarda che quello non è in aac ma è in 5.1 e funziona benissimo pure a me. lo aveva postato prima di capire che il problema riguardava solo gli aac

è un pezzo del file che ti dicevo ( di circa 10 mega ) guarda se funziona
ci sono 2 tracce entrambe in aac ( una in ita una in inglese )

Possibile che non mi sia mai capitato un file codificato in AAC, comunque se ti consola, le versioni successive di XBMC,
sebbene siano in beta, sono ottime.
Io sto seguendo lo sviluppo della versione 14, che è decisamente in alpha, e nonostante ciò funziona bene.
E se te la consigliano wsnipex e fritsch ti puoi fidare.

I had to give up, even though I was sure to be right... I was wrong, and after testing an AAC file I found my system giving the same result as Dana's.
I add my 10 cents to wsnipex and fritsch and suggest Dana to upgrade towards Gotham.
