It's different devices, so it's not compatible. Why do you think wireless reciever for wireless mouse would work with wireless x360 controller?

You can't replace the keyboard with a gamepad.. You'll definitely need both in case something crashes or you need to input text.

But if I get a keyboard, will it remove the need for a gamepad? Assuming yes, are there keyboards that have are FULLY compatible with XBMC, and by that I mean, all its features and functions will work through the keyboard. And what are some things (besides inputting text) that a game controller can't do in XBMC?
Edit: Because the K400 is 40$ and the wireless receiver I'll need to use my controller is only 8$.

You can control XBMC with a gamepad or a keyboard. If you're just going to run OpenElec then I guess you're fine. You'll probably still need the keyboard for initial setup.

Everything is already set up. I'm running XBMC on Windows, and from what I've seen thus far, every time there is a field to enter text, there is an on-screen keyboard to pick letters from, which leads me to assume the Xbox controller can do everything a keyboard can do, in XBMC.

I use both X360 wireless & K400 (and MCE Remote) By far I use MCE Remote most then K400 and X360 mainly for Retroarch.
