Xbox 360 Wireless Controller
#1
Hello.

I'm trying to use my Xbox 360 wireless controller to navigate XBMC on my Windows 7 PC. This Wiki article explains that the controller is purchased with a separate wireless receiver. My wireless controller has never had nor needed a separate receiver to function.

Quote:The Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows, which is sold by Microsoft with a separate receiver, works with XBMC on Windows XP, Vista, and 7 using standard Microsoft Drivers.

There is a separate receiver that's included with the "Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows" http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/...or-windows

The controller is the same, the only difference is it comes with the receiver for PC. The receiver is supposed to work with up to 4 wireless controllers.

I'm sure you could buy a generic receiver separately or one here http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss...20receiver

Otherwise just buy the controller that has the receiver included, you'll be getting an extra controller then as well.

I have the wireless receiver for an old mouse. This is its model of the receiver that came with the mouse: http://www.stuartconnections.com/en/mice...06941.html

I plugged it into the HTPC, it installed the driver. I tried pressing the connectivity button on both the wireless controller and the receiver so they can't connect to eachother but it didnd't do anything. Can you tell me if this model receiver will work or I'm wasting my time?

The receiver came with this mouse: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-36D-0000...B002ZV6S7Q

I no longer use it though.

I doubt it, they most likely use different proprietary designs... You'll have to Google it or wait and see if someone else knows. Sorry Sad

It's different devices, so it's not compatible. Why do you think wireless reciever for wireless mouse would work with wireless x360 controller?

noory, this is the best deal I can find: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/PC-Wireless-Gamin...df4&_uhb=1

Do you think it will work? If so, what is your guess on its range? It doesn't list it anywhere. My HTPC is about 10 feet from the seating area.

I'm using microsoft genuine one. 10 feet is fine. Not sure about these 3rd party quality. I had one, it works fine but cant say the same with others.

I'm beginning to ponder over which would be more convenient: using my wireless Xbox 360 controller or the Logitech Wireless Touch Keyboard K400. What do you guys think? I know the K400 has greater functionality, but in terms of ease of use, wouldn't you prefer to have a small, compact controller that fits in the palm of your hands? Just looking to be swayed to buy one of the two.

You can't replace the keyboard with a gamepad.. You'll definitely need both in case something crashes or you need to input text.

But if I get a keyboard, will it remove the need for a gamepad? Assuming yes, are there keyboards that have are FULLY compatible with XBMC, and by that I mean, all its features and functions will work through the keyboard. And what are some things (besides inputting text) that a game controller can't do in XBMC?

Edit: Because the K400 is 40$ and the wireless receiver I'll need to use my controller is only 8$.

You can control XBMC with a gamepad or a keyboard. If you're just going to run OpenElec then I guess you're fine. You'll probably still need the keyboard for initial setup.

Everything is already set up. I'm running XBMC on Windows, and from what I've seen thus far, every time there is a field to enter text, there is an on-screen keyboard to pick letters from, which leads me to assume the Xbox controller can do everything a keyboard can do, in XBMC.

I use both X360 wireless & K400 (and MCE Remote) By far I use MCE Remote most then K400 and X360 mainly for Retroarch.
