Unless it has backlit keys, I can't see any major advantage of this keyboard over the K400/K400r. It looks quite similar in design and functionality, but the K400r can regularly be had for $20 or less. I also like the being able to customize the keys using Logitech's SetPoint software. I'd say this keyboard is probably too little, too late as far as HTPC use goes.

It sounds pretty much functionally equivalent to the Logitech K400/r. The two advantages this seems to have over the K400/r is that touchpad seems bigger (based on the picture) and the claimed "Durable spill-resistant design". There obviously also some other differences like design and button-placement. It's safe to say that this also is not a backlit keyboard, I'm sure if it was that would be mentioned/shown in the pics, but then neither is the K400/r (although the Logitech K830 is backlit, but that's a much more expensive keyboard). Price wise, the MSRP is the same (the K400 on the Logitech website is also shown to cost $40), although since the K400 has already been out for a while, it can be found for cheaper). In time though, the Microsoft keyboard could probably also be found for cheaper.

Microsoft tend to build more durable products compared to Logitech.

Logitech have very bloated software for their devices. I use my keyboard/mouse from logitech without their drivers and have a much better experience though YMMV.

I have the K400 and this just seems similar: therefore it would only be a killer if it is cheaper.

The K400 seems somewhat flimsy/creaky and the trackpad isn't all that great. To most people I'm sure this isn't even an issue, though it's the finishing touch in my opinion. The sturdy build quality of a 360 controller compared to the cheap-feeling PS3 controllers is a good example of what I'm talking about.

For me, the k400 is awesome because it can easily be bought on sale for about $20, small but not too small, is "good enough", and so far has stood up to some travel abuse. It's the keyboard for when I just need a keyboard. For daily use... It's not bad, but it's not great ;)

I could see this MS keyboard taking care of that, and it's a very reasonable price. I'm normally an Apple guy, but MS makes some good keyboards and mice!

More of an 'Improved K400 Clone' than 'K400 Killer'. o.o

I have this keyboard running on my 5th gen Intel NUC under Ubuntu. Really like it a lot. Only downside for me is the connection sometimes can get spotty for a second or two(maybe interference from my tv or wifi?). Also, Walmart is selling it now for about $27 when I got mine.

I ended up picking this up over the k400. It's working but haven't figured out the pinch-to-zoom yet, 2fingered scrolling works tho. May just not be supported under android. I'm not yet sure if I care enough to exchange it.

I have the k410. If i ever decide to buy a new keyboard, I would get that MS one. The k400/410 are horrible to write on because of 2 things:

The keys themselves, the MS keys seem like normal laptop keys whereas the kr400 feels cramped.
And not least : the size and position of the Shift keys. (And subsequently the arrow keys). It just feels ackward to use the shift button, and I regularly push arrow up or right instead of the shift button.
And the trackpad seems much better too.
And yeah, MS tend to make hardware that have an edge over Logitech, qualitywise. I only have the k410 since I got it for free and they didnt have the MS keyboard in stock.
