Zotac ION-ITX-A (atom 330) died ... looking for something new
#1
Hi,

My good, old Zotac ION-ITX-A motherboard with Atom 330 and Nvidia ION has passed away today Sad. Im crying, my family is depressed Wink

Im looking for a replacement (motherboard + CPU + GPU) and I thought you guys could help me.
I have couple of "must be" things:
  • mini-itx
  • minimum 2 SATA connectors
  • at least performance of Atom 330 w/ Nvidia ION (click on the name for benchmark results). Of course faster = better.
  • as low power consumption as possible. Some old review of Zotac ION-ITX-A - with 1 HDD connected it consumed at idle: 21W. I would not want higher power consumption.
  • silent Wink (it would be awesome if it doesnt require cooling fan)
  • HDMI out
  • 2 ethernet ports (or 1, but there has to be Mini-PCI Express port on the motherboard)

WiFi not required.
It can be all-in-one (motherboard with built-in CPU and GPU), or motherboard with built-in graphics + seperate CPU, or motherboard + seperate CPU with built-in GPU - doesnt matter as long as my requirements are met Wink.
If its important: it will be a 24/7 Home NAS + router/firewall + HTPC w/ XBMC on Ubuntu.

Sorry for my english, its not so good. If I wasnt clear with something - please ask Smile.

How does this look : http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-...x?pid=4762 It's a Celeron 1037U and has two Ethernet ports. The 1037U is well regarded for XBMC, and that motherboard is well regarded for pfSense firewall builds ISTR.

I will look into it and read about it. Thanks a lot!

Of course if others have something to add/recommend please do not hesitate to write a post Wink

If you want the "ION3", have a look at this excellent motherboard which is the Atom 2550 with Nvidia GT610 GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6813176013.

One of the SATA ports is mSATA so you'll need to use an mSATA SSD. However, mSATA SSDs aren't usually that much more than and can even be cheaper than a regular 2.5" SSD. It also has a mini-PCIe slot, 1 x GigE ethernet, HDMI and it's very quiet thank to the excellent fan control in the BIOS.

There is also a 2 x SATA version here: http://www.macmall.com/p/Giada-Motherboa...dp.iadcjbd (the mSATA slot while present is turned off).

I've built dozens of HTPCs with these boards and they're excellent. Here are two examples:

SH-55 with D2550/GT610
SH-80 with D2550/GT610

The Gigabyte C1037U motherboard is also excellent. It just doesn't have a mini-PCIe slot. Despite 2 x GigE it cannot be teamed but you can have two IPs, say one for your LAN and one for the NAS to access the WAN.

There is also a Biostar C1037U board that has 4 x SATA (since you mention NAS): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6813138393

I used that exact same MB for 4 years.
Replaced it two weeks ago by a Gigabyte Bay-trail-D motherboard. Not because it died but because it was getting painfull for other things than video. (Browsing, flash, video streaming...)

I've just replaced my old ION330 with a Gigabyte Brix GB-BXCE-2955. Initial tests were pretty neat. Have to make it my daily driver in the next few days before i can report back if it's any good.

Edit: Meh, should have read the entire post Smile Does not match your requirements.
