IR Receiver and MS Media Remote
#1
Hi,

Hoping this isn't in the wrong forum.

I've currently got a couple of myGica 510b units running 12.2 and I'm also grabbing a couple of Acer Revo R3600 units from work that are now past their sell by date so was considering using them with XBMCuntu or OpenElec when Gotham is available but I'm looking at some nice sleek options for controlling them.

I've tried one of the options from maplins before and while it's ok i don't find it perfect since some buttons are mapped oddly, (info button functions as a right click etc) but I'm wondering if i could use a couple of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-Media-...005F28GYU/ in conjunction with these IR receivers http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Infrared-Remot...0723002241

WAF plays a part and she likes things neat and tidy and to be fair, i do as well when it comes to cabling being on display so thinking these receivers could be quite small and not too obtrusive.

Does anyone see any issues with these two items working together?

Thanks

Art

The info about the ir receiver doesn't mention that its MCE compatible, which isn't a good sign. It may not be plug and play, may not work with that remote and may not be able to wake the PC from suspended. I could be wrong and it could work fine, but I wouldn't risk it. Search eBay for 'MCE receiver'

Thanks, all valid points that kind of make me feel that I could end up spending quite a few quid finding the right combination of gear that gives me what I want.

With that in mind I might give one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-HP-USB-MCE...0699256474 a try which is a little against what I said in my first post but still gives a small remote with the features I need. That and it mentions MCE compatibility and plug and play as well as being slightly cheaper than my previous option which has got to be a good thing.

Thanks for the advice teeedubb.

Been a while since I made this post but I eventually decided on a new remote and this is the one I grabbed.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lenovo-Microso...OU:GB:1120

It uses a pair of CR2032 cells in the back and has been quite responsive and suits my needs.

If people are interested I'll post some photos and some info on what buttons do what function etc if that would be of use to any else in the future.

I bought two of them and my six year old had no problem with it and it fits in his hand quite nicely.
