Morning All,

I am a huge fan of the XBMC project and love what has been achieved so far!

I also work in a school with 1500 users on 1000 machines and believe there is scope to make XBMC an invaluable program to use in an educational environment with the help of the right people on board, hence this post!

Unfortunately my programming and skinning abilities are more non existent than limited so i need one or more people to help with this, would anyone be interested? If so please leave a post here and pm me and we can maybe discuss on skype!

Cheers

Ben

Please describe what you want to achieve. How would you use xbmc in education and what changes/features are needed?

XBMC works great as a streaming solution in schools.

We use it here for fun at the moment but I would like to role it out one day as an easy-to-use video library device.

@zag

XBMC is pretty limited as a system for teaching.

Basic features that exist in such solutions are:
* Video speed control, no sane student will watch a video lecture at 1x speed.
* Slideshow synchronized to the video.
* Dividing timeline to topics with click to jump to that point in the video.
* Authoring capabilities, no one will use a system that can't provide AIO solution for both students and teachers, it's like having support for showing info and fantart for movies without scrapper or external library managment tools (will you edit each nfo by text editor ?).
* Adding remarks and annotations for lecture errors.
* Live class capabilities and interaction with students.

Good example is Panopto or the previously mentioned solutions.

Just my 2cents as a student.

Just my 2cents as an xbmc developer. What dhead says confirms that this is totally out of scope of a media center. There is a reason why windows media player and power point are both needed Wink

There is need of training centers for XMBC guide and techniques. The Training Venues Perth would be quite useful for this purpose.
