Various recording issues: Active recordings acting as timers, stuttering

Thumbs Up
Hi,

Just installed serverWMC on my windows 7 box using 2 FloppyDTV tuners to allow me to see Live TV on my OpenElec Raspberry Pi. It generally works very well. Thanks a lot to everybody involved.

I have a few quirks though with recording various things.

1. Today I scheduled a recording of an ongoing show from the RPi using the EPG context menu but it showed up as a timer instead of a recording; showing the tick mark (I think it is) instead of the red dot. It was also listed as a timer on the XBMC frontpage although it was ongoing. Is this normal? Here is a pastebin of the log: http://pastebin.com/Zbq7hYAs . Started the recording around 10:08-14´ish. Also when I wanted to stop the recording from the EPG my only option was to "delete timer" when then also deleted the recording.

2. While the recording was in progress I started viewing it from the start, but it stuttered a lot. Nothing seemed to help (pausing/resuming etc.). I'm using "remux active recordings" per default in ServerWMC. Any ideas here?

3. When I do instant recordings while watching a show it doesn't turn up in the EPG etc. with a red dot. Is this normal?

I'm using Gotham RC1 builds and the latest pvr.wmc-linux-arm-0.2.95.zip

Looking forward to any input you can give - please let me know if you need additional information

Regarding issues number 2. above I just tried seing a recording that had been recording for a while. There wasn't any stuttering there, so maybe it was just related to trying to view the recording too soon. Would be nice if someone could comment on number 1 or 3 though.

1) There was actually an error in the log when you started the recording, so I don't think the recording ever got going. I'm confused by what I am seeing in the log. When you scheduled this recording using the epg view, were you also watching this channel? I'm not sure if by 'ongoing', you mean that you were viewing the channel or just that the program was currently being aired.

2) its probably related to the error in 1

3) I think this is probably normal if you are viewing it with the pi. Eventually the red dot should show up, but you may not see it right away..

Thanks for the quick response krustyreturns. Yes I was viewing the channel at the same time. I just tried reproducing it and it seems to happen consistenly (http://pastebin.com/jcnnBNTQ recording started around 21:22). Although the show is airing right now it still gets treated as a timer with a small watch symbol on the XBMC front page (thought it was a small tick in the original post - my bad).

I hope this helps - thanks again for your great work. Send a donation - pizza is on me Smile

Thank you!

So are these the steps?:
1) start viewing a live-tv stream.
2) while viewing the stream, bring up epg display (overlaying video with epg),
3) choose record from the context menu for the show you are currently viewing.

Is that right?

Also, I forgot to mention that timers are created regardless of whether a show is in progress or not. Xbmc will always show a timer so long as a recording is happening.

Yes that is right.

Regarding the timers maybe I'm not using the correct words. I thought a timer was something different from an active recording. Either way I only get the option to "delete timer" which will also delete the recording. My impression is that you should have the option to "stop recording" on ongoing recordings instead. I wish I knew how to take screen shots from a pi.

Just a small update after some more debugging. It seems there is a problem with my identical FloppyDTV tuners not tuning the same channels, so I need to look more into this. Thanks for your time for now.

FYI, I tried to reproduce it on my system and couldn't. Let me know when you find out more.
