[LINUX-Gotham 13] Playback Failed Message at end of each movie
#1
Greetings,

After a massive effort to do a fresh install of Gotham (Linux - ION), I have managed to sort out most of my issues. Here is one that needs addressing.

I am getting a message at the end of each movie just as it finishes. It says..."Playback Failed" "Check the log for details" (it's a little box that pops up from the bottom of the screen using Neon)

I have the extract pics / codecs function turned off.

Here is the bug log.
http://pastebin.com/yRHxSRCC

There are a number of Playback Failed returns from a search, but none seem to be this particular problem. Thx very muchly.

Play that sample from local(!) disk and post a minimal debug log with it: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5572...lannad.mkv

Your samba server seems offline? or pretty unreliable?

Not sure what this is (or where it resides), but I've never had a problem until now (Gotham).

Thx for your help

Doh...I read minimal log and missed the debug part Undecided

The file you supplied did NOT trigger the "Playback Failed" Message (could be that it's mkv). All my video files are standard DVD written as ISO's. I did not get this message in Frodo (well...at least not through the GUI - could have been something in the log??))

Two things: Your refreshrate looks quite odd, is that 1080 interlaced?

Does the following change anything:

Code:
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:wsnipex/xbmc-fernetmenta-master
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo reboot

Yeah...my AVR doesn't do "p" so I've have to set the xorg.conf to 1080i. Sad The basic install xorg.conf had a problem of re-setting the resolution to 1280x720 on reboot and wake from suspend. Regardless, before I changed anything, the Playback Failed" message was doing it's thing!

Will that upgrade bugger my setup. It's taken almost two days to get everything sorted out. I've never done an upgrade before (only full installs)

I do notice this "13 packages can be updated. 5 updates are security updates." when I log in with putty.

I don't know how to backup my setup under linux (only certain folders and files) Sad

That ppa can be removed later, so not really an issue - if and only if - your system is not broken when you start.

Can you explain this a little more in depth please. Are you saying that you can return the system to it's previous state before the update. If so, what commands do you use? How do you know the system isn't broken. It's currently working, but does that mean is not broken and how do the problems I'm having fit into all this?

Appreciate the help. Thx

Reverting, just in case:

Code:
sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge ppa:wsnipex/xbmc-fernetmenta-master

done.

Thx Dude. I keep this in my notes - just in case Smile. I'll report in once it's done.

Hey fritsch

I'm afraid the upgrade did not fix the "Playback Failed" issue.

Here is a debug log of the latest output using your file. Hopefully, you can spot what it is.

Disable VAAPI and don't play anything at 1080 30 hz.

Didn't make any difference. Still faulting and really bad tearing Smile

Quote:...and don't play anything at 1080 30 hz.

The GUI only allows me 1920x1080p @ 30.00. The only other resolutions are 25.02 and 30.03. How can I make 1920x1080x60i appear in the GUI? (I already have it in the xorg.conf file as a mode - and the TV does show 1920x1080i@60hz in its display panel)

Further...something interesting has happened. Trying to track down what is causing this. I upgrade as you advised. When the upgrade didn't resolve the issue, I purged and reverted as you also showed.

Now, the Clannad test file I downloaded from you original caused the "Playback Failure" on the original setup. Now...the weird thing is that now it doesn't after upgrading and reverting. Trying to track it down further I have discovered that playing any video file on it's own (eg using the containers I have available) like your mkv - it didn't fault, nor did a VOB, nor did an MPG. BUT...when I played the DVD files using the IFO, then it faulted. (this includes an ISO file). If I play the VOBS directly within the DVD Folder, there is NO fault.

Does this help any?? Here are the logs (only the portion pretaining to playback). I can post the full logs of both tests if you need them.

Log 1 = Playback Failure message using a standard dvd activated via the IFO file. The log finishes with the KaiToast message popup.

http://pastebin.com/NnsfySaG

Log2 = NO playback failure message activating the VOB directly

http://pastebin.com/z6DR1bEx

Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this. Much appreciated.

No idea - i don't get the red line anymore ...

Fix your xorg.conf if relevant modes are missing. If your TV is a 1080i device - use 720p. xbmc outputs progressive, the 30hz you are seeing _is_ the 60i.
Post: DISPLAY=:0 /usr/lib/xbmc/xbmc-xrandr | pastebinit

Disable passthrough, choose 2.0 speaker output, disable vaapi - only keep vdpau, use xbmc 13.1b1 and don't mix issues. Let's track one at a time.
