I just checked and Newsroom Tokyo has today's video. It will only have one video for the current day.
NHK sometimes does not broadcast Newsroom. This past Monday they did not broadcast Newsroom, so no video populate in the add-on on Monday.

Anyway, I updated live stream for highest bit rate 720 and 1080 streams.
I could not find a new domestic Japanese stream, so I'm not sure if the live stream fix will work for people in Japan.
Update: I just found domestic Japanese live stream, so updating the add-on again...

@misty01 just has to update a couple of files (addons.xml and addon.xml) to point at 1.0.42 (they're currently pointing at 1.0.41). They'll get to it shortly I'm sure.
If you are in a rush, you can grab the zip file directly.

Exciting stuff...
Added 1080 NHK Video On Demand.
Many videos have 1080 stream, but not all. If you don't see a 1080 video selection, that is because there isn't any... so just enjoy the 720 VOD stream.

I decided to not submit to the official repo because I can release fixes much faster through my own repo and there are certain rules that add-on authors must abide by (coding wise) to be accepted in the official repo.
