Linux Remote stops working / xbmc crashes
#31
I'm simply not getting the remote-freeze in Debug-Mode!

Have had it running for 2 hours now .... not watching ( the Yamaha Avantage-2020 set to World Cup ) but running in the background

Would be really good if mrpg could provide these logs, if he's able to re-produce the problem!

I'm wondering about downgrating back to Frodo ;-(

If that makes you happy, just go ahead.

I cannot fix something that I cannot reproduce nor have anything in logfiles.

Yes, and thank you for your help.
Will try for a a bit longer, to get the error in debug-mode ... so far, without luck

People with Zotac-Ion and/or Harmoney One ( with Microsoft Remote IR ) must be experiencing this all around ....
Maybe I should do a clean install again Huh

Hi !

I finally got the remote to STOP working at all in Gotham during Debug-Mode ... I've tried all my 3 Xbmc remotes (logitech harmony one, microsoft and hp-remote controls )
It's just running a movie, and the remote is useless and doesn't do anything any more, although I always get the red blinking light on the IR-receiver, if I hit some button on the remote ... but KEYBOARD works

Here are the results:

Kernel bug - xbmc is not the issue, try to boot with irqpoll as the message suggests. Ubuntu IRC channel knows how to do that.

Edit: In short your USB Port says goodbye and crashes the kernel and input

huhhhh ? Isn't that error just happening when I pulled my keyboard out from the usb on the front, on the fly?
- what exacly do you want me to do ?

the ONLY thing I've changed in my XBMC setup from fresh install is this:

sudo pico /etc/rc.local
echo enabled > /sys/bus/usb/devices/3-6/power/wakeup
exit 0

so the machine wakes up from hybernate mode ... with my remote control,
I've done this with all the previous versions of XBMC

Isn't this a similar problem?

I cannot fix the kernel, you are running into a kernel bug, see the trace. USB gets lost.

Your changes to /etc/rc.local are not relevant and are okay. That your remote works again after replugging has nothing to do with xbmc.

According to this link: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/...re-868457/
I should add this line:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash irqpoll"

to the sudo vi /etc/default/grub file
then sudo -i to get root access
Followed by update-grub to update the /boot/grub/grub.cfg file

- Fullblown commands:

sudo -i
sudo pico /etc/default/grub

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash irqpoll"

update-grub

Just wanted to let anybody who's watching this thread that this did NOT fix the freezing remote control :-(

It's still freezing, although I've booted with irqpoll as the message suggests, like this:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash irqpoll"

in this file:
/etc/default/grub

So the problem still remains :-(

Is there anyway to update the KERNEL Huh Maybe this has been fixed in the uBuntu Kernel now??

Kind regards,

If ubuntu has fixed it, a simple:
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

will install that new kernel.

Thanx for a quick reply as always fritsch,

I did the upgrade, 250mb's! Let's see if this will fix the issue ... is there any forum where I can ask about this?
Some uBuntu forum, you recommend going to ... to ask about this? If this *has* been fixed ...

And why has this bug suddenly come up NOW for the first time ... I've never had this problem with old uBuntu Kernels using XBMC?!

Kind regards,

http://ubuntuforums.org/ <- or search on http://launchpad.net to see if that bug is already reported.

You can try to install very latest mainline kernels manually, which might render your nvidia card non working, by doing:

Download those three files (see that wget has three arguments headers, header-generic, image:
Code:
wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.7-utopic/linux-headers-3.14.7-031407-generic_3.14.7-031407.201406111644_amd64.deb http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.7-utopic/linux-headers-3.14.7-031407_3.14.7-031407.201406111644_all.deb http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.7-utopic/linux-image-3.14.7-031407-generic_3.14.7-031407.201406111644_amd64.deb

and install it:
Code:
sudo dpkg -i *3.14.7-031407*deb

Hope and pray or whatever you do normally that the binary nvidia blob will install correctly. and then reboot the system.

Already doing the 250mb update to the Kernel with:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

... let's see if it works! ;-)
