Support Request: Media Guide Populating in XBMC But No TV Streams
#1
I've tried and failed to find an answer to this one on my own. TV is working sweet in WMC and the ServerWMC is sending related TV guide details to XBMC - but channel streams won't play when selected in XBMC. Log file - http://pastebin.com/aZSp4kEH. All help greatly appreciated.

Your tuner doesn't seem to be producing any data after swmc grabs it and I'm not sure why, everything else seems to be fine. Assuming you tried rebooting and making sure wmc still can tune to the channels, and you only have one instance of serverwmc running (I know these are all lame). Then go to the debug tab in swmc and uncheck 'delete temporary files'. Then after a live-tv stream fails, go to this folder in your recorded tv folder:
TempSWMC
inside it, you should find the wtv file that was produced by the last stream attempt, see if you can play it.

Thanks. WMC retains access to the TV card throughout. The issue appears to be with XBMC. A couple of thoughts. All the LiveTV.wtv files being saved are 512 KB in length and play as "paused". In ServerWMC, the path to the 'RecordedTV' folder is 'C:\Users\Public\RecordedTV\' and broadcasts recorded in WMC show up and can be played in XBMC. But interestingly, when I search for that folder in Explorer, it doesn't show and the 'Recorded TV' icon under 'Favorites' points to 'Computer/System/USers/Public/Libraries/Recorded TV'. Does the 'Libraries' addition have anything to do with this - or the fact that I'm running Windows 7 64 bit?

Yes that directory stuff is just windows 7 weirdness with libraries. The real problem for live-tv is the 512KB wtv files. This file size means the wtv file is empty of audio and video data, its essentially just a big file header. That's the same thing the swmc log shows, if can't find any audio or video data. Somehow swmc is not capturing data from your tuner, and since we are using the same library that wmc uses I don't understand why it doesn't work.

I have a number of usb stick type tuners on my devel system and they work fine.

Anyone else out there using a
WinTV Nova-T Stick DVB-T Tuner ?

have you tried a WMC reinstall/re-setup? Have you done anything "non standard" in your WMC such as added any plugins or MC hacks/tweaks, added additional channel frequencies, anything like that?

scarecrow. No. Reality is that it is a clean install used only for media. So nothing abnormal or strange. Straight out the box. Clean drivers throughout.

Try this experiment, edit the config.xml (see debug tab) and find the following field:

<UseAsyncRecorder>true</UseAsyncRecorder>

change this value from true to false. Save the file. Restart swmc, and try to tune to a channel.

No obvious difference I'm afraid. Should I post a related Log?

No, it was a desperation move on my part. Do have any other systems with wmc, that you could test with? The usb key should be easy enough to move.

Does this tuner come with some tuner management software, or the like, that you might be running without knowing it? Like a background service?

No other systems apart from some Raspberry Pis running XBMC across the house. The card installs WinTV as part of its drivers. But it looks like it only engages the card when specifically run. For example, I can run WMC, then move to WinTV, then move back to WMC without any hitches.

Its no biggie to simply use WMC for TV. I just liked the idea of XBMC as the integrated solution given that it serves as well in every other room!

Thanks for all your help.

Good to hear that no tweaks/modifications have been made in WMC. How long ago was WMC installed and configured? I would still suggest trying to reset WMC's configuration and do it again.

Also in your log I noticed some weird things like channels called "News" "Dcumentaries" "Entertainment" that had null tuning spaces. Are these real channels or some kind of groupings? I wonder if it's possible to install the drivers for the TV tuner without any applications or other possible things being installed?

If you dont have a spare PC to try the stick on, would you know someone or be willing to buy, a different USB tuner to give that a go?

Fresh install only a matter of weeks ago. Fully updated to Windows 7 SP1 and only has a few legit things installed. Built miainly for media. I don't recognise the 'weird' channels you describe. They must come directly from one of the following installations - Windows / WMC, WinTV or XBMC. I've done nothing else fancy.

Like I say, WMC working flawlessly straight out the box. So I can watch and record TV outside XBMC. Indeed, I can watch recorded streams easily within XBMC. Just can't stream live tv within XBMC.

As for buying an alternative TV stick. Not at the moment. Maybe later.

Since you can schedule recordings with win tv it makes me wonder if it is running a service that only lets it and/or wmc grab tuners. Since you use wintv I am not recommending you uninstall it, but if you ever feel like doing more experimenting I'd start there.
