Gotham 13.1 spdif stereo only

That's completely unrelated. You are running a raspberry PI with hdmi interface ...

could you please play some DTS 5.1 material.

- does your receiver detect dts or dd?
- you are saying that output is only stereo?

please post debug log of this test.

Sorry it took a while, busy. Here is the log. http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=235593

I played two movies (masked.movie.name.1080p.mkv and masked.movie.name#2.1080p.mkv) with DTS 5.1 audio. Again, I noticed that as soon as I hit play, my surround receiver detects the 5.1 channels but only stereo is played back.

From our side everything looks fine:

It opens the spdif device with RAW, RAW layout which means that it sends compressed content, e.g. DTS or AC3 to your AVR. And when your AVR tells DTS/AC3 and 5.1 our job is done.

I guess it may be an issue with the receiver? It's odd that it would show that it detects the signal but not play it back correctly.

If your AVR tells AC3 or DTS (verify that) it's most likely a problem with your cables. Make a photo of the avr display, when you play: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5572...20Test.avi

I asked to play dts for the following reason. If you play dts and the receiver detects dts the signal is untouched by XBMC. That is different for dd. If you receiver detects dd, the signal may be transcoded.

Don't really want to butt in with a thread full of dev's, but it is perfectly possible to have DTS only carrying 2 channels. EG my original DVD of Braddock - Missing in Action II is DTS, but it's only stereo in spite of that. The DTS indicator lights just the same as with a full surround soundtrack.

@black_eagle: yes, that's correct but the log tells otherwise.

And from what I see he opens DTS correctly with all 6 channels:
Quote:16:35:58 T:140185873364736 INFO: CAEStreamInfo::SyncDTS - dts stream detected (6 channels, 48000Hz, 16bit BE, period: 512)

Here is another sample if there is doubt about it: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5572...nglish.dts

I played this back and I get the following results. Center channel sounds are played back on L and R speakers simultaneously and there is no center channel only. Rear L and Rear R speakers produce no sound. The only sounds that works is F/L F/R and SW.

I tried plugging the SPDIF connection into another input on the receiver with the same results. Unfortunately I do not have another receiver to test with.

I do see DTS on logo and that it detects 5.1 (see screenshot below of idle receiver and when I playback 5.1 content).

Any thoughts or should I attempt to replace the optical cable?

if AVR display DTS, then check your other AVR settings - xbmc's job is done when DTS signal is accepted by the AVR.

I wanted to close this thread and provide an update. I had a chance to borrow a 5.1 capable known working AVR so I swapped it out to test and 5.1 comes through as normal. It looks like something is wrong with my existing AVR and it stopped processing surround, strange as I've never seen an AVR fail like this.

Thanks again for all the help.

Check the HDMI audio settings in the AVR (should be something like "Audio output: Amp") and also make sure any HDMI Control/CEC functions are turned off.

Hi,
I am unable to get surround sound, here is My setup.
Playbar : has optical Toshlink Input and supports Dolby digital only.
Matricom GMx2 box with latest Gotham built.
Box connected to TV (Panasonic viera VT 60) with HDMI, and through SPDIF cable (one side is 3.5 mm and other is tosh) going to the playbar.
Box setting is set to SPDIF pass-through.
I have 5.1 setup in my room.
The setting (see attached) does not allow me To change audio output device, it is always set to "android, audio track. "
No matter how many channels I change to, I am always getting STEREO. Please help.

I new to xbmc so Pardon my ignorance in this. [/quote]
It won't allow me to insert picture as it says feature is disabled by admin.

Hi,
I have exactly same problems today.
I upgraded my Xtreamer ultra 2 from frodo to gotham today and now my optical spdif connection to my amp is only stereo.
Same config was working fine before I had 5.1 Dd or Dts using the spdif.
I tried by connect box to the onkyo using hdmi and not spdif anymore and in this case it is ok : 5.1 is detected.
Is it a bug or should we have to change something to the config to be able to use hdmi for video and spdi for sound ?
Thx
