watching sd content on an HDTV. what scalar does the Pi use? considering upgrading to a J1800 board but I read something that can only do bilinaer scalling. Is the Pi better in this regard?
(and many of the following posts). The Pi scaler can take a 32 tap filter and implement arbitrary scaling kernels.
We switched to a Mitchell-Netravali kernel for Gotham after a period of testing different kernels,
as it had positive reports from users here, and the linked paper suggest it is the best (subjectively) of all piecewise cubic filters.
The video scaling on the Pi will be much better than bilinear (which you get on Android).

Just when I thought I was about to upgrade. I find out the Pi is better than something that costs 3 times as much. Its it weird when I get excited about cool technology like this?
popcornmix thankyou for your explantion. Your an asset to the Pi!!! and I can't believe I get to communicate with the guys right at the top. feel privaliged lol.
