Windows i5 Build for full Bluray 3d! Too much?
#1
Hi all,

Ok so this is a new build for my new house. What im looking to do is future proof my build for 4k and also have the ability to play FULL 3D Bluray rips and also any other media that you can possibly imagine including Hi10p.

Im thinking of going the windows 7/8 with XBMC route as i like to install the additional software and will also have a bluray drive. The HTPC will connect to my yamaha receiver which does DTS HD, TRUE HD and all that which outputs to a tv and a projector now and again.

The build:

Case - Powercool Q5 Mini-ITX 180w Chassis - Black/Aluminium £40.99
This has a bluray slot and is tiny so will look good too.

Motherboard - ASRock Z87M EXTREME4 Motherboard £79.92
Seems like a decent board, im open to suggestions on this but want something that will do 4k moving forward.

CPU - Intel Core i5 4570 Quad Core Retail CPU £139
The i5 Haswell so that it can handle the Full 3D bluray rips and also the Hd4600 IGPU for 4k and HD audio

Bluray drive - LG BT30N 6x Internal Slim Blue-ray Drive £56.79
Slim loading bluray drive so it fits the case.

HD - SanDisk SDSSDP-064G-G25 64GB Pulse SATA 6Gb/s Internal 2.5 Inch SSD £32.46
To install windows. Media will be on the NAS

Would welcome any recommendations to make this cheaper - maybe use a diff Modo or CPU or case. Thank you in advance.

Case is Mini Itx, Mother board is Micro ATX

You can either select a mini itx MB or switch case to Micro ATX. If you decide on the latter, you should take a look at silverstone htpc cases

I would recommend this case: Silverstone Milo ML03B

i3-4330 for £92.92 should handle full 3D bluray rips and cpu also includes Hd4600 IGPU

Thanks mate!

I thought i picked out a mini itx board but clearly not..ill have another look and see what the alternative is...

Re the CPU..will it handle 4k as well?

Finally, beside the changes..will all the items work well together? ive not done anything silly have i?

Yes, the integrated gpu in i3-4330 should handle 4k

All looks compatible to me. I assume you have already have your RAM (4GB) and PSU

The PSU is included in the case so will that be sufficient, think it says 120w?

Also i decided to go for this motherboard.. Gigabyte H87N-WIFI Motherboard what do you think?

Yes, 120w should be fine

i3-4330 - TDP 54w, everything else will not draw much.

Nod Motherboard looks good
