Android Dolby Digital 5.1 - Partially Solved!

I had an issue that I had not sound from DD/DTS because of a conflict with HDMI, though.
It seems that even if SPDIF is selected, HDMI was used if I had HDMI ARC enabled between my TV and the receiver.
Thanks for testing. Not to sure what to deduce from this. My amp not compatible with the sound being produced from xbmc.? Frustrating as the amp plays fine outside XBMC and DTS is not a problem within XBMC. I can't see a logical course of action from this point.

If you have HDMI ARC enabled between your TV and your AVR, try disabling it to test.

All turned off in MINIX settings.

Mmm... Not sure you understand what HDMI ARC is (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#ARC_and_HEC)
ARC is a link between your TV and the AVR. It forwards all sound packet received by your TV to your AVR, thru the HDMI cable cable between them, if you have one.
So it has nothing to do with the Minix side.

Generally speaking, there seem to be a bug on the Minix side which makes so that if the HDMI link is reporting support for DD or DTS, SPDIF does not work as it should. That would explain why DTS is working for you but not DD. Modern TV's often support DD but practically never DTS.

If the HDMI side (your TV?) has somehow support for DD/DTS, try disabling it if you can.

Thanks for detailed explanation. I do understand arc and can see where you are coming from. I've already checked all TV settings and tried to ensure all is set as standard so TV is not attempting to interfere. The only settings I can see that might interfere are related to speaker setup, there is only setting and that is to choose between tv speaker or external speaker, i have tried both and currently have this set to tv speaker so as far as hdmi to tv goes, the tv doesnt think there is anything funky required. My TV does not support Dolby as its a basic Samsung 3d series 6000 the optical output according to manual only supports stereo pcm, this is backed up by all Dolby options being greyed out. There is nothing specific to arc. If everything is fine in android, surely all should be OK under XBMC? I am currently uploading video to demonstrate the issue, will provide link when finished uploading. So to confirm dd via optical cable to amp not working under XBMC.

Hi there

I was wondering what is the status of your bug at this stage. I have an identical connection seeting (HDMI for TV and SPDIF for audio on AVR) I am using an xtreamer android box and having similar issues with XBMC. I finally got DTS working fine.
DD 5.1 is working and receiver identifying but... every few seconds there's a fraction of a second of loss of sound and image statter. This doesn't happen at all on DTS sound.

on the Xtreamer XBMC version which is 13.xx all is workign fine.

on the Gotham and Kodi version I have the issue above.

curious to find out what is the status with this.

From our old forum:

Dear all,

We've noticed many of you are having troubles enabling passthrough.
Here is a simple, step-by-step guide.

1.) Enabling passthrough inside the system
- Go to the basic setting folder on the MINIX launcher screen, or open the "SettingsMbox" app directly;
- Move to the 3rd category - Advanced;
- Make sure the "Digital audio auto-detection" option is "OFF";
- Scroll down to the last option - Digital Audio Output, click into it;
- Choose the passthrough option you need - either SPDIF passthrough, or HDMI passthrough;

After step 1, you may proceed to step 2 if you want passthrough from XBMC;

2.) Enabling passthrough inside XBMC
- Go to SYSTEM -> Settings, click to go inside;
- Scroll all the way down to the last option - System, click to go inside;
- Scroll all the way down to the last option again - Settings level, click 3 times to "Expert" level;
- Scroll up to the Audio output option, move right, select "Enable passthrough" + "Enable Dolby Digital transcoding", total of 5 blue dots will be checked;
- Enjoy;

Last but not least, if you are NOT connecting the box's HDMI to the external decoder directly, or if you're connecting using the SPDIF OUT port from the TV, then first of all you must check whether your TV could handle these multi-channel streams, we can't help you if the TV doesn't support that:

I hate to say this but I have yet to witness any bells and whistles av gadget live up to expectations over the years. There's always something it won't do. You spend your money and then all your spare time on these forums dreaming and hoping for a feature in a future firmware release. Been there.

A better idea is to let these manufactures get it right, publises the full specifications TRANSPARRENTLY and then and only then consider parting with your well earned cash.

Anyone?

Is there some reason you posted this here in this old unrelated thread?

Hi. I have the same audio issues. However if I try to change "Digital audio auto-detection" it will not allow me as it is stuck on hdmu passthrough. I have tried loads of times now but it will not allow me to turn it off. Any ideas?

If I leave this on and try to enable 5.1 and enable pass through in kodi the I get no sound what so ever.

I am running an external 5.1 surround sound amp connected via hdmi.

Please advise.
