Win Intermittent Freezing During Playback
#1
Hey all. I set this HTPC up around a month ago and have had this recurring problem as long as I can remember. During media playback the screen will freeze for 10 seconds, then jump ahead and resume playing. Seems to happen navigating any menu or viewing media from seemingly every source (local, live TV, internet). It usually freezes once an hour but will happen as fast as every 20 minutes.

13.1 “Gotham”
Windows 8.1 pro with media center
Intel® Celeron® CPU J1900 64 bit
4gb ram
Possibly relevant: HD Homerun Dual, serverwmc, xbmc booter, flirc
Debug Log - http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=245063

Intel® HD graphics
Realtek High Definition Audio
MediaInfo output - http://pastebin.com/4iD11qrK

Thanks for reading this.

You might use the keyboard 'O' command while watching a video to look for bottle necks, but looking over your debug log there seems to be some Discontinuity (fetch errors) mixed with "ERROR: ffmpeg[4C0]: [mpeg2video] hardware accelerator failed to decode picture" which suggests to me a graphic driver issue. Anytime you have the word 'error' in the log, that's enough to bring the software down. If software rendering is an option, try it out and see if you have isolated the issue with the hardware acceleration? If the media is local (local drive) it will be the driver giving issues, but if it plays fine locally, then there is other issues such as your network, nass or bandwidth.

well I updated my drivers from whatever windows update gave them to the most recent (10.18.10.3383). It seems like that might have fixed it for local media but Im still getting freezes during live TV. Ill try checking software rendering and debugging as you suggested.
