Android Constant buffering

I'm not entirely sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goes.

I recently set up a NAS box with openmediavault, using aufs and samba for drive pooling and network sharing respectively. I also picked up an Ugoos UM2 Android stick with which to use XBMC at a fairly low price. I set up XBMC with Samba with everything properly mounted, and decided to watch a fairly llow-bitrate 720p film (the Lego Movie, specifically)... and here my troubles began. Every 20 seconds or so, the stream needed to stop to buffer. I tried other HD filns to sinilar results. I then set up SFTP with XBMC in the hopes that the speed would increase significantly, but to no avail. I'd try NFS, but OMV is not cooperating and I'm not sure if it'll make enough of a difference in the first place.

What should I do to alleviate my issues? Should I try NFS, or scrap the whole wireless business and bring my (fairly quiet) NAS box and gateway to the room the TV's in, connecting to ethernet via USB?
