I was thinking of upgrading my Apple 1 to a 160 GB Hard Drive. I was wondering if this would increase operating speed and or reduce buffering or would this just be a waste of money. I will run Openelec or Crystallbuntu through the drive so storage is not the question.

As a prior Apple TV1 user with XBMC, I can say from my own experiences the amount of effort it would take to mod the device to support a bigger hard drive would not be worth it. Your not going to see much speed improvements from doing this.
