I am new to XBMC. I just downloaded XBMC to my laptop. Is it legal to watch ESPN with this add on in US?
How can I know which add on is legal from the list? Please not just answer "Yes" or "No", I could not find the respective reference link by google search.

If the add-on is from the XBMC.org add-on repository then it should have been checked to make sure it is coming from an official/non-bootleg source/server. The only ESPN add-ons that I'm aware of for XBMC should be "legal" in the US, but I'm no lawyer.
