Dual stream 3D is similar to frame packing for 3D video (bluray format - full resolution for each eyes/side) but in one file like a MKV.

Frame packing is an output method, not an encoding method I assume you are referring to mvc, which is the encoding used on 3d bluRay.

For any encoding format to be decoded by xbmc it needs to be supported in ffmpeg, so that is the first place to look.

You're right (I am not an video expert) regarding the format. I will check ffmpeg format supported.
