Android XBMC EPG very slow to load on FireTV, any ideas would be appreciated
#16
I tried kodi 14.0 alpha3 and it's now up again to 9s (up to 12s).
EDIT 2014-10-08: I've been messing around a bit with channels and now it's about 3,5s.

It is slow for me as well. I use my phone for mythtv web to access and schedule recordings instead of the onscreen epg. It is too small anyhow.

On my FireTV running Helix and ServerWMC backend, I am seeing a minute every time i switch to guide. Any ideas for me? Also occasionally it appears I completely lock up and guide never displays. After 5 minutes or so, just goes back to main screen. I do have a lot of channels (655 channels, 3 days of data) but shouldn't the data load faster on second and third loads? I tested network (wired) and everything seems good and I also ran from handhelds with similar results.

XBMC EPG Load #1 Log

Even some cases when the EPG succesfully loads, I am still unable to navigate and seems to lock up, log below.

ServerWMC Log:
ServerWMC Log

Loading EPG on my desktop takes 2 seconds max to load all 64K EPG entries. Is this just too much for the FireTV?

It timeouts on something, better post a full debug lognim the WMC addon subforum. Could you also edit your post and move the log snippets to pastebin instead?

Done. Thanks.

The timeout appears to be related to XBMB3C plugin's HTTP Image Proxy Server so shouldn't affect this but may be a sign to an underlying issue causing my problem as well.

Try disabling it and see what happens, then provide a new log.

I increased the CURL timeout and disabled IPv6 in advancedsettings.xml and I haven't seen the CURL timeout again. I also removed half the channels in WMC which brought it down to just over 300 and cut the epg entries to less than half. I sideloaded SPMC and only enabled wmc.pvr addon to eliminate any add-on issues and although better, I still see load times of 30-90 seconds and occasional locking up. I tried disabling channel logos in ServerWMC, restarted the service and cleared epg/pvr information in XBMC but logos were still displayed. Not sure why they are still displayed or even if disabling will help.

Not sure where to go from here. It seems common so hopefully only a matter of time before someone comes up with a solution.

i can confirm that the load-time of the EPG window is abysmal on the Fire-TV.

we cache the EPG data fetched from the database right after the first call of this window. on a second, third etc. call it only renders the EPG data into the window, but you don't see any significant changes in the load-time.
so i'm sure that this is related to the GUI rendering process maybe to many items with to many data assigned.

Just to confirm this isn't a FireTV only problem. We've had slow EPG reports on the Pi for a long time:

I have been finding similar reports as I search more on the issue. I was a little surprised when first trying it on the Fire since that on PC it takes fraction of a second.

I hope its something that can be addressed at some point. I am funding this hobby by hoping to eliminate over 30/month in cable box + DVR fees Smile

I am seeing the same issue with ServerWMC and Fire TV as clients. Windows laptops work fine as clients off the same server. One odd thing I noticed was when looking in the ServerWMC software at the tuners in use, the Windows laptop lists the computer name as the client but for the Fire TV is says localhost.

Reading this thread it seems to me that there may be code that could be improved, which causes problems just for low power devices.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I got the impression that just talking about it in the forum doesn't cause the problem to be addressed, so I made a feature request:
http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/15503

There's also a comment from a developer.
I hope the issue will now be addressed, IMHO the low power devices need this epg grid showing improved.

Excellent idea to bring the issue back into the spotlight. I thought it was in progress already based on multiple discussions on the forums and I think I remember seeing a comment on Github that work will resume after Helix Beta is released (I may be wrong though).

Thanks. Making this functionality better would be the killer feature for me.
