Edit: I solved this issue by doing sudo when I start xbmc. Wierd.
I upgraded my 2 year old install to the latest ubuntu 14.04.1 / xbmc 13.2 and everything except sound works fine.
I have turned up the volumes to max in alsamixer and turned up the volume on speakers and in XBMC
Audio output settings seems fine (Default (HDA NVidia ALC887-VD Analog)
But there is no sound whatsoever. What could I have missed? I also tried removing pulseaudio from a tip I got but no change.
