Get a Gigabyte BRIX with 2955U Celeron - that should be the lowest cost NUC-type device that survives of almost anything.

Thanks for the response, what extra functionality does this particular brix model offer over a Chromebox with the same 2955u cpu?

Proper windows support for starters for HDMI Audio. Hardware features I am not sure about.

Personally I am looking at a Zotac ZBox BI320 myself. a fully built one with a 64gb ssd and 2gb of ram and WIndows 8.1 is going for $180 on amazon here in the US and the base system is $122 if you have a MSata ssd and 2gb ram laying around already.

Should be easy enough to replace Windows 8.1 with openelec or Linux if you want to go that route. The BI320 also has Toslink output unlike the Chromebox or Brix. and a slightly better CPU with the Celeron 2957u
