Linux Gotham becomes unresponsive in full screen
#1
Hi,

I'm having a strange issue here. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04.1 on a AMD C-50 laptop (AMD Radeon HD6250) with XBMC Gotham 13.1 (stable) and have also tried with 13.2 beta 3 and it's both the same.

Basically if I run XBMC in full screen mode then some videos, appears to be 720p and above, cause the player to become unresponsive. ie. it doesn't react to keyboard presses or any other inputs any more. The video does play to the end though.

However, if I run XBMC in Window mode this issue does not happen, no matter what video I play. It stays responsive.

Here's my Debug log: http://pastebin.com/Mz2X35en

Would be grateful for any suggestions on how to fix this. Or is it maybe a bug!?

Thanks!

Right, think I found the problem... hopefully.

First I installed the latest stable AMD driver from here: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/de...t-packages

That alone didn't help though but this time I actually got a Crash log. And there it looked like the lrclyrics add-on was having issues:

Code:
18:36:52 T:2483997504 WARNING: CRenderManager::WaitForBuffer - timeout waiting for buffer
18:36:52 T:2828553024 WARNING: Previous line repeats 2 times.
18:36:52 T:2828553024 WARNING: CPythonInvoker(0, /home/tv/.xbmc/addons/script.cu.lrclyrics/default.py): the python script "/home/tv/.xbmc/addons/script.cu.lrclyrics/default.py" has left several classes in memory that we couldn't clean up. The classes include: N14PythonBindings31XBMCAddon_xbmc_Monitor_DirectorE,N14PythonBindings30XBMCAddon_xbmc_Player_DirectorE

So I tried to disable the add-on but that caused another crash. Finally I uninstalled it and now it seems to work ok.

Hope it stays like that and maybe this helps someone else too...

you don't have hardware video decoding with fglrx...
get rid of fglrx and use mesa radeon.

Thanks for the suggestions... where do I get that driver from?

here: https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/ub...cs-drivers
or
here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver
or is it something else!?

It's integrated in any uptodate ubuntu release starting with 14.04 - no need to install oibaf ppa. Follow that thread here and make 100% sure you removre everything that fglrx might have left, e.g. the disable of the kms in /etc/default/grub

First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.
