UPnP / DNLA server w. encoding features - like Plex has
#1
Hi

I have been searching the forum for a post regarding this subject, but i am unable to find any conclusive information.

Has it been discussed / debated weather or not to implement such a feature? I am currently using Plex, as i often travel and only have access to low bw internet. Therefore i cannot stream content in full quality and here the Plex encoding feature is awesome. But i miss XBMC as it is much nicer customization wise, and the add-ons are much better (subtitles and so on)

If anyone has a link to a thread where this has been discussed i would love to read it.

It has been discussed and there was supposed to be a GSoC project to implement this but it never happend and nobody picked up the work since. It's an often requested feature but it's also a lot of work.

Searching for "transcoding" or "transcode" you can find these related discussions

If a "transcoder engine" was added to the core then it could have multiple uses
