At sometime over the weekend a change has been made to xbmc that has stopped my use , if i open xbmc I get a black screen and a message saying the video drivers have recovered from a serious failure. I unfortunately thought it may be due to not having the latest version and deleted xbmc and reinstalled it, unfortunately I still get the same problem and am unable to set the prog as it still shows a black screen, it was working fine last friday and I got this when i used yesterday I wonder if it is due to the latest upgrade any help would be much appreciated.

This is not an XBMC problem. It could be one of a lot of things, most probably faulty hardware.

See the following for possible troubleshooting, it is on the AMD website, but not necessarily specific to AMD.

Hi,

I understand your response just curious as to why it only affects XBMC no other programme. and the first lines of the page you indicate are,

If the issue occurs only when using a specific application, it may have known issues or corrupt files

Contact the application’s manufacturer for further information or for possible software patches
Perform a clean installation of the application

and this is exactly what I tried to do.

In your original post you imply that one day XBMC was working and the next day it wasn't. You say

At sometime over the weekend a change has been made to xbmc that has stopped my use.

Did you make the change, or are you implying that an add-on got automatically updated and so changed XBMC? If it was an add-on update (highly unlikely) then that shouldn't prevent you from getting to the HOME page when you start XBMC.

You reinstalled XBMC and still you are getting a black screen, whereas no-one else has reported such a problem. I would say that points to a problem with your computer, rather than a problem with an application that thousands of other users (myself included) are using on windows systems with AMD or Intel hardware.

Have you tried playing a video with another application, such as VLC or Windows Media Player, that would stress the graphics hardware and if so does it play fine?

I still think your best bet is a problem with your system.

Try running the Novabench software http://novabench.com/index.php
along with the GPU-Z utility http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

Thank you for your input, however I opened XBMC today and it is up and running and after I had gone through the usual setup procedure all is now back to normal, I have made no changes but someone somewhere obviously has ??.
