There is another thread about NBC Sports LiveExtra, but it seems to be dead, so I'm starting a new one. Moderators, feel free to merge if you think it is necessary.
I'm preparing for the NFL season, and I just discovered that while NBC Sports LiveExtra requires authentication to watch most of its content, anything that was broadcast on the normal NBC broadcast stations (i.e. Sunday Night Football) is freely viewable without any authentication.
The website is http://stream.nbcsports.com/liveextra
However, it is streamed using the Adobe HTTP Dynamic Streaming format.
I discovered this script to download the streaming fragments and save them to a flash video file:

However, I'm interested in watching live through my XBMC (Frodo) system.
I know that Apple Live Streaming support has been included since Eden, but I'm wondering what it will take to implement HDS viewing.
I'm willing to convert the AdobeHDS script to python and create my first XBMC Add-on, but I want to start by asking if anyone has any insight into other solutions or would be able to help me do this more efficiently.
