is there some way for me to pop a thumb drive in navigate to the first file in a certain folder on that drive and that drive only and have it play thru all of files in that folder w/out haveing to configure it as a media source in the settings

With the Amber skin you can make a favorite to a share and add it to the main menu. (I use it for the 'Kids' collection I don't want in my library)
So you can navigate to your folder and click the first one.

Don't know if it's working for 'thumb drive'
