A couple of questions
#1
Hello and thanks for visiting what seems to be my daily question thread. I have 4 question that I'm going to throw in this thread. Hopefully I can receive the same help that i've been receiving through these forums Big Grin

Question 1: Playback frequency

Basically I'm using this HTPC as a media playback, internet browsing and gaming system. Am confused as to how and where to set my refresh rate. From what I've read, it should be somewhere around 24hz as that is what frequency the movies are played back at. Is this true? Do I need to set this in Nvidia control panel, or is there a setting in XBMC? Currently I have Nvidia control panel at 60hz and XBMC is set to match the frequency of the movie...

Question 2: Legible text
As stated earlier, I do want to use this system to browse the internet here and there. Most recently used to try to find answers to these questions. I've noticed that the text is barley legible up on the big screen though. Is there any work around to this? I have my resolution set to something like 1830X1030 (resized to fit screen) on a 47" LG LCD/LED TV. I have downloaded the stop squinting plug-in for Firefox, but I was curious if there is anything else I could be doing.

Question 3: Shutdown sub-menu
Currently there are about 5 option in the shutdown sub-menu: exit, hibernate, suspend, sleep, log off and reboot (if memory serves me correctly) Can I edit this down to just suspend and exit? I couldn't find the Shutdown menu in the sub-menu section of settings.

Question 4: Remote control for Windows/XBMC
I picked up a Aerb Multifunction 2.4 G Mini Wireless Keyboard & Infrared Remote Control to control my XBMC and it seems to function....ok I guess. It has its annoying quirks like the air mouse function that can't be permanently disabled. I wanted a remote with a keyboard and this one looked the most appealing.

Anyway, the remote works fine for direction through xmbc but I'd like to remap the keys or change the way xbmc/windows perceives them. For example, there is a button on there that resembles the Android back key and the home key. I'd like to remap them go back one and go to the main menu screen respectively. Also, there is a power button the top that when pressed, shuts down the system completely (similar to windows shut down). I'd like to remap that to suspend so that I can wake the system with the remote again. If I use Windows shut down, I need to physically press the power button on the system. I thought the first two buttons might be able to be configured in XBMC and the power button maybe with a macro if I can figure out what command the remote is sending to Windows.

Thanks for reading my wall of text!

Q1 - see here http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=2161267

Q2 - I use ' CTRL + ' in the browser window to increase text size. Use ' CTRL - ' to reduce size.

Q3 - I believe you can only change this menu by editing the skin source itself, notably the 'shutdownmenu' window. I may be wrong on that though.

Q4 - see http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Remote_controls and

On my windows system the file to edit for the shutdown dialogue is C:/windows/program files (x86)/XBMC/addons/skin.confluence/720p/DialogButtonMenu.xml.

I am not recommending you to modify this file, which will be restored to its original condition should you reinstall XBMC. I like to fiddle with (and from time to time fix) code, but if I screw things up in doing so I have only myself to blame.

Ok thanks. I've just been using my mouse with Ctrl.

This would be my first time editing the code. Not sure what to do with any of it.

Try and break up your questions into separate messages, (I noticed plenty of sub questions in each) it gets a little daunting for the average user to help when he may be able to answer one or two of the questions well but not all. Use the wiki's as much as possible...
By the numbers:

1) The old adage, if it's not broke don't fix it comes to mind. 24fps woks fine if your display supports. In any case, set the LG to 'Just Scan', the least amount of massaging of the signal is best for sharpness. Changing the resolution to non-standard requires interpolation by chips in the gfx card or display. Use the built in overscan features to do re-sizing with hardware.

2) see # 1, 'Just Scan' is about as good as it get's... (1 to 1 pixel displays are better) making the movie display, primary and using the desktop O/S some software have minor text tweaks you might take advantage of.

3) a google search with 'XBMC shutdown' brings this http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=115693

4) you'll find most of your remapping keyboard & remotes answers here.http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=HOW-TO:Modify_keyboard.xml
