Movies that won't play in Gotham
#1
Since Gotham 13.2, of my 5 terminator movies, 2 and 3 will no longer play. I get audio only and the GUI menu with the playback control bar is all that is visible.
The only difference is that they are from HD DVD sources. T-1 plays fine. Its stats are last below for comparison.
Under Frodo and the current version of plex, these files played fine.

These are as follows:

Here is the log file.

http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=276539

Funny that these are the only two files that will not play.
I did try a few things on the Videos>acceleration page. What worked is to set the decoding method to hardware accelerated and un check "allow hardware acceleration (VDADecoder)."

The log file shows error with "CDVDPlayerVideo - video decoder returned error" and "Decode - VDADecoderDecode failed, status(-12473)"

Hope this helps.

can you cut a 50mb sample of this file and upload to dropbox or so? Ensure that the issue is reproducable with that sample. Also it would be interesting if the same issue happens with current helix alpha or nightly builds.

Btw, this issue is also reproducible on my other mini and my retina late 2013 retina MBPro. The same setting change toggling between "allow hardware acceleration (VDADecoder)" corrected it on my other machines as well.

Here is a clip on Dropbox that reproduces it on my machines. Clip.

Dropbox? Mega? Google Drive?

Yeah Dropbox as memphiz had asked me to upload a sample of the problematic video for him to see. Just click on "clip" to get the sample.

Memphiz, did you get this file? I'd like to delete it if you had.

I poked another dev to have a look at it - i think i didn't get to it yet - how long can you keep it up?

This problem still exists in Kodi 14.0

I run problem movie files through an OSX app called MP4tools and convert em to avc / aac / m4v using the passthrough options. Subtitles can be included in the m4v container.
If you pay for a Licence you can even do mass numbers of files via batch processing.
Its fast on multicore Macs.
Highly recommended.

I could do that but these files played fine in frodo and plex. Something changed with gotham and later. Not that it matters at this point since I deleted the problem HDDVD derived files in favor for Blu Ray source.
