XBMC and dual monitors?

I've got 13.1 on a Chromebox and couldn't be happier. So for grins I've installed it from the repos on a couple systems I'm setting up that have dual monitors.

It doesn't seem to be very useful to have two monitors with XBMC as the second screen just seems to always stay black. Am I missing something about the setup?

What would rock would be dual monitor set-up with one monitor rotated (1920x1080 primary, 1080x1920 secondary) and have slideshows place landscape orientation on the primar and portrait orientation photos on the secondary. Is this possible?

I myself am fuzzy at best about using dual monitors for video, for video I want the Chromebox hooked up to the 82" HDTV, and don't see what a second monitor would add, although the Chromebox in theory would support it.

My wife loves to play slideshows on her computer, but many of our photos are portrait orientation which are inferior when shown on a landscape display.
